Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development of existing and new applications by carrying out straightforward, well-defined basic programming, design, and coding activities under close supervision
  • Monitor and identify software defects and suggest corrections for approval by more senior colleagues to maintain fully functioning applications software
  • Support others by performing prescribed design activities using existing procedures
  • Research and suggest technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users’ needs
  • Maintain a roadmap to facilitate application software development and ensure the development work is prioritized in line with business requirements
  • Provide initial fault isolation and propose resolution for approval by more senior colleagues to limit and address issues promptly
  • Draft and maintain basic technical and/or user documentation to a high standard
  • Perform routine website/applications software tests and respond to user emails to monitor, diagnose, and correct performance issues
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the organization's policies and procedures and of relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct to ensure own work adheres to those standards
  • Obtain authorization from a supervisor or manager for any exceptions from mandatory procedure
  • Support implementation of required security measures, such as firewalls or message encryption, monitoring performance to notify security experts of any problems
  • Explore and develop a basic understanding of external developments or emerging issues
  • Produce accurate reports for others by collecting data from a variety of standard sources and inputting it into standard formats

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Knowledge of front-end technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages (JavaScript, Python, Ruby)
  • Basic understanding of web application development and associated frameworks
  • Ability to work with databases, both relational and NoSQL, and write basic SQL queries
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Passion for learning and staying up-to-date with industry trends and technologies
